Let go of the all-or-nothing mentality. You are NOT on a diet! Plan a free meal, plan a treat. I want you to be able to say 'I am so glad I had that bar of chocolate, I really enjoyed it!'

 

Daily Nutrition Guidelines 

 (Specific food plans are included in the program)

Drink 2-3L water.

Aim for at least 4 alcohol-free days a week.

  • Eat low GI carbs at breakfast and lunch  
  • Eat protein at every meal.

Plan your protein first. Most women don't eat enough protein. As we age our protein requirement increases. To keep lean muscle and burn fat, adequate protein is essential. For example chicken, fish, tofu, pulses, beans, legumes, eggs, and low-fat dairy, like cottage cheese.

  • Eat 2-3 servings of fruit a day.

Especially berries for the anti-oxidants. A serve is 1/2 a cup or a tennis ball size.  More than 2-3 serves a day maybe too much sugar. Avoid fruit juices, and fruit smoothies, and dried fruit.

  • Eat 4 handfuls of fibrous veggies a day.

Eat a rainbow of veggies. This does not include starchy veggies like kumara, potato, pumpkin, or corn.

  • Eat 2 servings of starchy veggies or grains a day. 

A fist-sized serving of kumara (sweet potato), pumpkin, yams, sweet corn or cooled and reheated potato.

1/2 cup of oats, brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat, millet, amaranth.

2 slices of wholegrain or sourdough bread. Or 2 low-carb wraps. Or a pita pocket.

  • Add healthy fats.

Use, avocado, nuts, seeds, and olive oil sparingly.

  • Dinner 1/4 plate of protein 3/4 plate of fibrous veggies, raw, steamed, stir-fried, baked, slow cooked, however, you like them. This includes coleslaw - without high fat  dressing and salads. Use cauliflower rice, konjac noodles, edamame noodles, or mashed squash instead of potato, rice, pasta.
