Is menopause making weight loss feel impossible? You are not alone.

I have worked as a nutritionist for 25 years, and a significant portion of my work has involved helping women navigate menopausal changes.

Why?

Because when it comes to:

  • ‘Watching what you eat’

  • ‘Staying in shape’

  • ‘Toning up’ or ‘losing weight’

Everything changes, and what you used to do simply doesn’t work anymore.

The hormonal shift of peri-menopause can begin 10-15 years before menopause. This time can feel really hard.

You might be exercising the same, eating the same—yet suddenly your waist expands, and your upper body starts feeling boxy.

The great thing is—although this can feel frustrating—you can change it.

Often, it only requires a few tweaks to get your weight loss moving again.

Many women tell me they’ve “tried everything” and that “nothing works anymore.”
But honestly, once you understand the hormonal changes and how they impact your food choices, it’s a battle you can win.

The hardest part is sticking with those changes.
Increased hunger, a dis-regulated appetite is a menopausal symptom, and lifestyle pressures—like work stress, teenage kids, and ageing parents—can make it feel overwhelming.

But we spend a third of our lives in menopause.
We owe it to ourselves to figure out what works.
We deserve to feel fit, energised, and confident in our clothes.

This is exactly what I teach and help many women with.


My journey has been a little different.

I went through menopause at 50. Back then, I was running marathons—despite that, I put on around 5-7kg, mainly around my waist and as back fat!

I was fit and had few physical symptoms apart from insomnia.But mood swings. I turned into the bitch from hell.  I wish I had known back then it was a symptom of falling oestrogen levels, I honestly thought I was going mad.

I was also constantly hungry and putting huge stress on my body by running marathons. I did eight marathons and hundreds of half-marathons between the age of 49 and 55.

Of course, I got injured and had to stop running, so I went back to bodybuilding. I dropped fat for competitions but struggled in between.

In 2017, I went fully plant-based, lost 5kg very easily—while eating more food—and kept it off effortlessly… until now!

At 66, my back surgeries from 20 years ago are catching up with me. Hip tendinopathy, tendinitis and bursitis have robbed me of much of my active lifestyle—for the moment. 
Right now, I feel like I’m accumulating fat and losing muscle… but I know what to do—and I’m on it!


I called my company Outlook for Life because this truly is a lifetime journey.
