Can I eat bread and still lose weight?
Yes, you can!
My advice is to never eliminate any foods completely to lose weight. Seriously are you willing to commit to never eating bread again? If the answer is no then you are going on a diet and we all know how they turn out!
Having said that avoid eating processed white bread regularly.
It has negligible nutritional value and will cause a blood sugar and insulin response that will slow down your body's ability to burn fat as fuel.
If you want white bread - go for a sourdough loaf.
The lactic acid from the wild yeasts lowers the glycemic index and gluten content making it easier on the stomach. Sourdough also increases the absorption of health-promoting antioxidants. Sourdough is a prebiotic that feeds the good flora in your gut.
The old food pyramid suggested 6-11 serves of grains a day!
To get horses or cattle fat what do you feed them? ... grains!!!
This does not mean that you need to go keto it just means listening to your body and your reaction to wheat- rye and gluten.
In my programs, I suggest having toast for breakfast if that's what you like or a sandwich for lunch but not both.
If you don't tolerate gluten well and need a low fodmap diet then try just having bread 2-3 times a week. Listen to your body if you feel tired or bloated pull back and find the balance that works for you.
Note that gluten-free bread is not always better for weight loss.
Wholemeal bread is white bread with a tan!
Sourdough is awesome.
The grainier your bread the better.
I love a wholegrain sunflower seed sourdough from our local French baker. It is a fabulous treat at the weekend. I love it hot from the bakery with avocado and tomato.
Bread can be a great source of fibre, vitamins and minerals so don't biff it completely just find what works for you and be careful with what you put on it!
